Shaun of the Dead

You may or may not know that a Shaun of the Dead inspired piece of mine made it into the second issue of IDW's official comic. Just as an update to that, you can also find it in the trade paperback edition, which compiles the whole story. Thanks once again to Edgar Wright and Chris Ryall at IDW for their support. Edgar also has a copy of the piece on a canvas in his office.

Lost Work

What with the recent demise of Highbury Publishing, there are a few pieces I've been working on that may or may not now see the light of day. Here's one of them, which was actually meant to be the cover for the next issue of Digital Creative Arts...

And then there's this piece which I did for Advanced Photoshop magazine, demonstrating how to do concept art style pieces.

Snoho

It's a terrible pun I know, but this was the Christmas illustration I sent out to friends and clients. It's loosely based on some photos I took in Wardour Street. Well the background is, anyway!

The District

The District were kind enough to ask if I'd illustrate their Christmas card this year. This pencil approach with the flat colours behind seemed to work well:

And Other Visual Habits

Here's a sneak preview of some work I'm contributing to the AOVH project. It's all to do with what it means to be a British designer/illustrator, and Ronnie B sadly passed away while I was working on it. It got me thinking about this history we have of great comedic characters, and how there's definitely a sense of humour pervading the work of a lot of British designers.

DPS and Cover for DCA

Digital Creative Arts asked me to produce a double page spread illustration on the theme of creativity, and how to hone it. I also wrote the accompanying four page article. I got the idea after a visit to the Natural History museum. When you see those dinosaur skeletons as a child, you can't help but imagine the magnificent beasts that were once wrapped round those bones. It's a really pure representation of how to use your imagination. As an extension to that, when a child plays with their dolls and robots, they are always seeing the bigger picture. The implication is that as adults we should try to keep that attitude that once came naturally.

DCA liked the illustration so much they decided to use it on the cover for the issue too...
