Ramboy

Son of Rambow is the latest project by Hammer & Tongs, following Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The film is all about two boys who, after seeing a pirate copy of Rambo back in the 80s, embark on their own movie-making adventure. The site has been created, and the whole project arranged by those lovely Preloaded peeps.

I was asked to contribute artwork for the launch of the project alongside other folks you may have heard of, such as Jon Burgerman and The Boy Fitz Hammond. Which was nice. Especially so, considering that the theme suits me down to the ground.

My Ramboy piece was designed to work on a few different levels. Firstly, just to look good! But the idea of the knife taped to the camera is the significant part. On one hand, it's all about the power of movies, or more specifically, the power of the camera. It's certainly about the power that the Rambo movie had over these boys. On the other hand, the idea is that the boy is about to shoot a scene where the knife plunges towards its target, in true improvised, low-budget movie-making style.

Anyway, I hope you like it. Props go to Preloaded for inviting me to be involved.

Got an exceptional portfolio?

Have you got an exceptional creative portfolio? Or do you know someone who has? Well, I'm putting together an article for a well known UK magazine on the subject, so please get in touch if you think you can help.

As well as static online ones, I'm really talking about printed portfolios and showreels. And I'm particularly keen to hear about stuff that's a little unusual. How have you made the presentation of your work memorable in itself?

Thanks in advance!

Updates on the way, but in the meantime...

I've been right busy the last couple of weeks, but there'll be some new pieces to show soon. Amongst other things, I'm currently finishing off some illustrations for Official Playstation magazine, which I'm happy to admit, has been a little dream of mine for some time. I also just contributed to a project that Preloaded have been putting together, which should be available to see pretty soon. Finally, I got chance to interview Nightmares on Wax last week for Pixelsurgeon. Check out the review of their new album too...

Just a little something...

...that I designed for a party invite. It started out as inversion of a blurry digital photo of lights at night, which struck me as looking a little like the surface of a planet. Anyhow, i was pretty pleased with how it turned out, so thought it was worth showing here...

New Advanced Photoshop Issue

Following the demise of Paragon at the start of the year, Imagine Publishing are now continuing with Advanced Photoshop magazine. I've got two tutorials in the latest issue; one on concept art creation, and one on underwater lighting and effects for illustrations. I also interviewed James Jean, Kozyndan and Acidtwist for the front of the magazine.
